Sharing by hand how it is written
I've got a math lesson I do not understand. The calculations themselves are not difficult, I have solved them, but it is the calculation method we will use I do not understand. It is division, for example, 82: 2. Below the number 8, there are two squares, and below the number 2 there is first space, then three squares (downwards), like this:
Can you explain to me how I arrive at the answer using those squares?
We start by dividing 82 by the first digit (8) and the second digit (2) and remember that we divide by the number 2.
Divide the first digit (8) by the number after the divide sign (2), ie find out how many times you have to add 2 to get 8. The answer is 4 and is written down to the right of the equals sign (Fig.1) Multiply the number which is to the right of the equals sign (4) with the number we divide by (2), ie 4 times 2 is 8. This answer should be in the square just below the first digit (8). (Fig.2) Subtract the first digit ( 8) the number that is in the square below, 8 minus 8 is equal to 0, and write the answer in the empty square directly below. (Fig.3) and my premium essay
Now we come to the part where we talk about the middle ground. The same digit above the space (the second digit, 2), write in the first box below the space. It now says 02 and we have two empty squares below the second. (Fig.4) Divide the second digit (2) by the number 2 and write the answer to the right of 4. That is how many times you have to add 2 to get 2, which is equal to 1. (second digit in the answer) (Fig.5)
Now merge the last number you arrived at (1) with the number you divide by (2) and write the product in the empty second square below the space. (Fig.6) Now subtract from the square just below the space the number that is in the box below and write the answer in the bottom box, 02 ?? 2 = 0. (Fig.7) Because the answer is 0 we are done and the answer to the problem is what is after the equals sign, 41.
What is division?
The arithmetic sign for division is
: and it is read divided by. The result of division is called the quotient. The number to be divided is called the dividend and the number that divides the divisor. Division and multiplication are opposite or inverse arithmetic operations, just like addition and subtraction. If we multiply a number by another and then divide the number by the same as we multiplied by, we return to the original number and resume writing world.
Division and measurement division
Based on specific situations, we discover that there are two types of problems that correspond to division - example:
- Kristine has 18 roses that she will share equally in three bouquets. How many will there be in each?
- Kristine has 18 roses that she will share equally in bouquets with three in each bouquet. How many bouquets will there be?
The first is called division, the second measurement division. By division, we know how many are to be distributed. The answer tells how many there will be for each. In the case of a measurement division, the divisor says how many there should be in each quantity. The answer is how many there are.
As multiplication can be thought of as repeated addition, division can be thought of as repeated subtraction: How many times can 3 be subtracted from 18?
You buy three books without looking at the price. After paying 210 kroner at checkout, you quickly calculate that each of the books must cost and write my essay
210 : 3 = 70
One book costs 70 kroner. Multiplication and division are opposite types of arithmetic:
3 ⋅ 70 = 210
Sometimes we do not have a calculator available when we need to divide. Now we will look at how we set up division calculations. A prerequisite for understanding division is to know the multiplication tables well.
Four friends go on holiday together. They get a group discount on the plane and pay a total of 1852 kroner. How much will it be on each?
The calculation can be performed step by step as follows:
So what is behind this method? Yes:
18:4 means in the lineup really
1800:4. We find how many whole hundreds each will pay, and see that there will be 4 hundred. There are 2 hundred left. This is the same as 20 tens. This means that a total of 25 tens are to be distributed and essay. So is
25:4 a short spelling for
250:4(25 tiers: 4). And when we have placed 6 tens on each, there will be 1 titer left. 1 tier plus 2 kroner pieces - then in the end there are 12 kroner to distribute.
