Until 6 months ago, the term Sharepoint Services was foreign to me. Shortly after learning the concept, I got to know the actual show. When I was first introduced to it, I was confused. The program has so many features and so many options that I was immediately overwhelmed. I felt like I was standing at the foot of Mt. Everest looks up.
Then I started taking my trip to the SP services in the same way I imagined a climber would travel up the mountain. Everest. One step at a time!
Now that I am fluent in SP, I feel it is my duty to facilitate the process for others. That is why I have written several guide articles covering the most important features. However, I think I missed an important step. I have never written an article that briefly describes what Sharepoint Services from evolvous is. Hence the birth of this article.
So what are SP services exactly?
Let me explain this to you on the simplest terms.
If you can, imagine a bulletin board located in your office break room. There are several different sections on this bulletin board. These sections consist of the following main categories:
o Team calendar / schedule
o Company announcements
o Tasks to be performed
o A reference sheet
o Contact information about employee
o Free writing section / blog
o Document Library
Now imagine that this bulletin board is available online. Private of course. Which means that only authorized persons have access to this information. This is essentially what Sharepoint services are.
It is an online meeting platform that allows you to share an infinite amount of information with team members around the world.
There is! A brief explanation of what SP just is.
