AWARD CATEGORY NOMINATED FOR: STUDENT PRESIDENT OF THE YEAR
Isaac Yaw Angah is a Mechanical Engineering student who served as the Dr. Michael Kofi Tetteh Hall (KTH) President of the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa for the 2019/2020 academic year. I am a highly skilled, enthusiastic and goal driven leader whose sole aim was to positively impact the lives of my followers, and this drove my passion to be the best leader ever. My vision and mission statement played a pivotal role in directing and guiding me in achieving my goals as a President in my tenure of office.
To form a strong leadership front that would champion the course of members of the hall and its affiliates.
To mobilize the views of members of the hall and materialize them in the right order.
To serves the interest of members in order to make their stay in the Hall enjoyable and pleasant as possible.
In my bid to serve the students right, these are few projects I undertook with my team:
Ensured accountability in all dealings of the hall and effectively manage all on-going projects and assets of the previous administration.
■ Installation of CCTV cameras in the various study rooms, TV rooms, and every floor of the Hall to improve security.
Re-branded orientation organized for Freshmen (First years) by organizing a seminar dubbed “CAMPUS LIFE” to educate them about campus life.
■ Purchase of a new set of jerseys for the Hall to improve sporting activities.
Organized inter floor competitions and aerobics/health walk for members of the hall.
■ Organized classes for freshmen (First years) to help build a good foundation for their academics.
Purchase of KTH branded pen drives for continuing students (Level 200, 300 and 400 students) of the Hall.
■ Purchase of KTH Lacoste for freshmen (First years) of the Hall.
Distribution of KTH Constitutional booklets for First Years of the Hall.
■ Provision of ID cards for key collection to improve security in the Hall.
Maximized the rate of attending to problems in the rooms of members, lobbied to put measures in place to stabilize water supply and advocated for the maintenance of spoilt sinks and chairs in the hall.
■ Created sports teams for the hall (Volley ball, Basketball, Football).
Organized an “Akwaaba” competition between first years and continuing students.
■ Collaborated with the International Student Association to organize excursion to Kakum National Park.
Improved upon poor network signals by collaborating with mobile network companies.
■ Collaborated with ICT unit to facilitate internet wireless connection setup in the hall.
Purchase of a set of microphone and receiver for the Hall for entertainment purposes.
■ Provision of chairs, white marker board and markers in the study rooms of the Hall to foster effective studies.
Mounting and fixing of faulty drying poles in the Hall and replacement of worn out ropes.
■ Successful organization of the Hall Week Celebration'20 dubbed "Euphoria".
Hoist flags (Ghana Flag, UMaT Flag and KTH Flag) at the forecourt of the Hall.
■ Replaced the KTH Name Board.
With these projects implemented under my supervision, and other roles I played as the KTH President, I am optimistic that I deemed fit for this award.
